Reflective writing or journaling involves writing down your thoughts, emotions and experiences to work through difficulties and move forward. It's really simple to do.

Endometriosis and pelvic pain can be very challenging. You may not have considered writing about your experience but it can actually help you feel better and more able to manage your situation.

Step 1: Setup your space

Grab a notebook and a favourite pen or your device of choice (laptop, phone or tablet). Find a comfortable spot where you won't be interrupted. You might like to get a cup of tea or coffee to help you settle in.

Step 2: Get started

You may think you have nothing to say, but as you start writing you will probably find you have lots to say.  The important thing is to start. Whatever you write is right. You can't get it wrong! Here are some prompts that you might like to use:

  • My day so far...
  • I've been thinking about...
  • The first thing that comes to mind when I think about my journey with endometriosis or pelvic pain...

Step 3: Pause and reflect

Take a moment to read back over what you have written. Does anything stand out to you?

You may want to continue writing and exploring further, or you may want to leave it. You can keep coming back to writing in this way, as much or as little as you like.
